Together with partners from Sweden and the UK, Vision Forum will co-organise a day of performances at the venue, the Belsyre Garage in central Oxford on September 26, 2026. During the event performers from the Nordic countries and the UK show their work together. The project’s artists are held together by a shared interest in how artistic expressions can contribute to deeper insights into how digital technology is shaping our daily life.
Two questions become more pertinent every day: What are the possibilities? What are the dangers?
In reflecting on these questions, art has the advantage that it can approach the questions practically rather than philosophically. The goal is therefore to deepen the debate about mankind’s relationship to technology by creating and presenting performances that use technology as an integral part of the presentation. (e.g. digital musical instruments, live 3D imaging, VR and repurposed medical technologies.) Art also has a long history of using technology in creative ways that was not intended by its designers (methods that go against the intended use of technology.) In my choice of artists I therefore looked for artists who use existing technology in unexpected ways, allowing them to go deeper into questions about how technology is shaping our future. What can be done to ensure that humans’ and other living entities’ interests and well-being will be safeguarded?
The artistic expressions in the group are also varied including music, dance, film and spoken word. Most of the artists also mix multiple genres and technologies in their performances. When we put together the group of performers, I also looked for artists who are interested in the challenge of showing in a disused garage. Artists who become inspired by taking on a space with history and a strong presence.
