Vision Forum is proud to announce that Helge Ax:son Johnsons stiftelse supports our project 1 + 1 = 3 and their public performance in London.

1+1=3 is an artistic collaboration between Jean-Louis Huhta, Per Huttner and Stephen Whitmarsh. Their starting point is the willingness to allow other to appropriate each one’s practice and knowledge-base, and to look at one’s own practice through the eyes of others. Part of their work consists of developing hardware and software technology as tools to connect art, science and music. The EEGsynth project started with a simple idea that has been around since the early 1970s with the musician Alvin Lucier probably being the most well-known example. Brain, heart and muscle activity are measured and transformed into sound using modular synthesizers. They take advantage of the fact that brain-computer interfaces have recently become more affordable, opening new avenues for new research into the human condition and new forms of artistic expressions. The hardware and software of the EEGsynth is developed according to open-source practices and shared freely, thus building an multidisciplinary community of people interested in exploring the relationship between the mind, brain and music in a live hands-on way. With them on their journey is neuroscience engineer Prof. Robert Oostenveld, principal developer of FieldTrip, the open-source MATLAB analysis toolbox.
