During the event performers from the Nordic countries and the UK show their work together. The project’s artists are held together by a shared interest in how artistic expressions can contribute to deeper insights into how digital technology is shaping our daily life.

Two questions become more pertinent every day: What are the possibilities? What are the dangers?

In reflecting on these questions, art has the advantage that it can approach the questions practically rather than philosophically. The goal is therefore to deepen the debate about mankind’s relationship to technology by creating and presenting performances that use technology as an integral part of the presentation. (e.g. digital musical instruments, live 3D imaging, VR and repurposed medical technologies.) Art also has a long history of using technology in creative ways that was not intended by its designers (methods that go against the intended use of technology.) In my choice of artists I therefore looked for artists who use existing technology in unexpected ways, allowing them to go deeper into questions about how technology is shaping our future. What can be done to ensure that humans’ and other living entities’ interests and well-being will be safeguarded?

Most of the artists also mix multiple genres and technologies in their performances. When we put together the group of performers, I also looked for artists who are interested in the challenge of showing in a disused garage. Artists who become inspired by taking on a space with history and a strong presence.

Vision Forum is proud to participate in “Dynamique” at Galerie de la Moulinette in Paris 18-24 July 2026. Many of our long term collaborators like Laurent Deveze, Fabien Guillermont and Per Huttner show work within the the framework of the exhibition. The show looks at questions that are raised in “Les grecs, leur mythes et nous” (The Greeks, their Myths and Us) by Laurent Deveze that (as the title suggests) looks at how ancient Greek myths can be used to understand who we are. We have previously published a book by Deveze entitled “Cartels.” That book constitutes a kind of self-portrait of the author based on his collection of art work. Each of the 38 artworks describes a journey of how they have been created and acquired and includes artwork from Sweden and France, but also also Ethiopia, the Ivory Coast, Poland, South Africa and many more. The book is a wonderful poetic and provocative mix of stories, memories and philosophic reflections of how artwork shape a human being.

June 9–14, 2026, IKFKOS will present the fourth edition of the Transformation festival in Bergslagen and Stockholm. This edition takes a somewhat different direction from the previous ones. The working process revolves around sound, animism and shamanism. The participants ask themselves how contemporary music can draw inspiration and nourishment from these practices. The investigations take place alongside a continued exploration of biofeedback in musical composition and improvisation.

During their stay in Sweden, the participating musicians will collaborate with a Sámi shaman so that they can learn about traditional Sámi traditions. A public events will take place on June 12 at The Outpost and in a Sámi kåta (a Sámi traditional house) outside Riddarhyttan in Bergslagen, in collaboration with Teatermaskinen. Workshops with Swedish musicians will also be held in Stockholm.

As its name suggests, Transformation IV is the fourth iteration of the festival. It forms a part of a series that moves between different geographical locations and investigates different formats. In the spring of 2019, Vision Forum organised the first edition of Transformation in Stockholm. At that time, musicians explored how the body’s own nervous signals, from muscles and the brain, could be used in musical composition and performance. During the festival, composers, musicians, technologists, and researchers came together to investigated the aesthetic potential of using biofeedback in music. The outcome generated a rich flow of new reflections, fresh ideas, emerging research directions, technical innovations, collaborations, and artistic projects.

In the spring of 2020, Vision Forum, in collaboration with the French radio platform P-node, organised the digital online festival Transformation II. In 2024, the third edition was held at various locations in France and Belgium.

To attend the concerts in the kåta on June 12: we will meet at 11:45 AM outside The Outpost and walk/row together to the site. The concerts at The Outpost begin at 7:00 PM. Free entrance.

Participating musicians:

Gaël Segalen

Sonja Tofik

Jonas Engman och Per Hüttner

If you still haven’t seen Fabien Guillermont’s amazing film about the first Transformation festival 2019, now is the time to do so (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhdB8lTThrM).
The festival is organised together with Teatermaskinen, Vision Forum and The Outpost. The project is supported by The Swedish Arts Council.

Vision Forum has since almost a decade investigated what the arts can learn from the human microbiome, the micro-organisms that we live in symbiosis with. Over the years we have carried out such collective investigations as The Nature Inside, Governings Bodies, Microbes in the Desert of the Real and When the Shimmer of Eternity Starts to Fade. The work has been carried out in many European countries, in the Americas and Africa. The projects have been deeply loved by our audiences.

The group’s work has taken its starting point in contemporary medical research on microorganisms and people like the researcher Stig Bengmark who promotes eating habits that support the human microbiota, biologist Lynn Margulis who has shown that symbiosis is just as important as competition in evolution and many thinkers and practitioners who discusses the humans relationship to living and non living organisms. All three underline that our understanding of how our bodies function and what a human being is, is changing rapidly. Human beings can no longer be considered to be individuals, they need to be perceived as ecosystems who live in symbiosis with a very large number of microbes.

We are now considering new alleys to go down. We will therefore undertake a one day workshop at Ekerö, outside of Stockholm visiting Rosenhills trädgårdar and Rastholmens värdshus on May 20. More will follow here in a not too distant a future.

Do animals communicate? Is there also important communication between species? If so, what can be learned from how animals communicate and can we facilitate dialogues between species?

Science tries to understand how animals communicate amongst each themselves. Their communication offer new perspectives on language and a peek into a fascinating non-human world. Vision Forum is developing a fascinating new project that investigates how animals communicate and what the arts can learn from it. The group meets in Stockholm at Tekniska museet May 19 and 20, 2026 to develop a program that will be available for the general public in 2027.

The project is a collaboration with Curatorial Mutiny and is supported by Längmanska kulturfonden.

Vision Forum is proud to announce the book release of Performance Enigma at Hökarängens Antikvariat & Skivbörs, Saturday May 9 at 16h. Address: Pepparvägen 4, 123 56 Stockholm.

The book investigates and unravels Per Hüttner’s multifaceted performances, spanning artistic inquiry from 1988 to 2024. His work constitutes a labyrinth of intertwining perspectives and mirrors a multidisciplinary practice that bridges music, dance, neuroscience and more. At the book’s core lies a meditation on the ephemeral nature of performance; a medium that defies preservation and resists commodification, standing as a political act in an age fixated on documentation.

Offering a dynamic, non-linear exploration of art as process rather than object, Performance Enigma invites countless interpretations, each shaped by the reader’s journey through its pages, coalescing into a kaleidoscopic vision that questions how we see and interpret the world at large. Events become fragments, and fragments spark narratives; challenging our understanding of memory, perception, and the human condition.

Texts and editing by Freddie Ross with further texts by Carima Neusser and the artist. All the contributors will be present and it will be followed by a concert by Alpha Xiao.

Graphic Design by Erik Månsson. The book has been created with support from Längmanska kulturfonden.

Alpha Xiao has been active in its musical exploration of mental and musical space since 2020. They often collaborate with other musicians and artists in different constellations such as Sebastian Campbell of God Mother, Petri Kuljantausta and Olav Westphalen. They have played extensively in various European venues in Sweden, Finland, Belgium, France and Germany. Alpha Xiao has also created music for Fabien Guillermont and Toan Van Che’s full-length documentary “Reality Check” in 2024.

Alpha Xiao is an experimental musical group using a portable electroencephalograph (EEG) and microbial activity to modulate designed audio samples in real time as well as a traditional Chinese flute called a Xiao. The two person constellation focuses musically on connectivity through rough sketches of compositions, sounds and themes. As brain waves and non-human life expressions influence certain dynamics of the sound, and vice versa, a type of feedback loop is generated between the activities of the technology and sound produced ad infinitum.
